FAQs

What microneedling device is used?

The device is SkinPen by Bellus Medical. It’s the first FDA-cleared microneedling device.

It causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result is effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is clinically proven to safely and effectively treat all of the skin conditions and issues mentioned above. With as few as three non-invasive and affordable treatments (spaced 30 days apart), you can improve your appearance for six months after your last treatment.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process –- inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling –- to prompt tissue remodeling without causing scar tissue formation. Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours.

Does it work for everyone?

Unlike some alternative treatments, Microneedling has been clinically proven to be effective for women and men with skin ranging from light to very dark. Likewise, unlike lasers or chemical peels that can damage skin over the long term, these treatments, when properly spaced and overseen by a trained clinician, can be used for years.

Is it safe?

Yes, the single-use, sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind.

Who should not use it?

Microneedling should not be used on patients who have active skin cancer in the treatment area; open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area; an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics; a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; are pregnant or nursing; or are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane).

Are treatments eligible for insurance?

Unfortunately, no. Microneedling treatments are classified as “cosmetic.”
